“I just don’t feel happy.”
“I feel irritable and I don’t know why.”
“I think I’d feel better if I could just cry, but I can’t.”
“I know my emotions are out-of-whack, but I don’t know what to do about it, and besides, I guess it’s just normal.”
Personally I’ve grappled with irritability, sometimes even anger, extreme exhaustion, numbness, weight loss, incredibly high levels of stress, and the inability to cry. Something in my life HAD to change!
As my journey towards health began, I felt like I was constantly peeling back the layers of an onion. As I found answers to one area of my life, I also discovered other areas that needed to be addressed as well, whether it was simply an imbalance, a nutrient deficiency, or a hidden lie that I had accepted as truth. For a glimpse of my story you can read my bio here.
Imbalanced hormones, mood swings, and crazy emotions do not need to be accepted as normal. But where does one begin to understand what the body is asking for from these signs and symptoms? Is it a nutrient deficiency? Is it a thyroid issue? Is it an imbalance of the adrenals or stress levels?
As a health coach, I frequently hear remarks such as “Oh, you probably wouldn’t eat this.”
I always say, “I can not and will not judge you. We are each on our own health journey. I have been there. But now the concept I tend to follow is everything in moderation. Yes, even I occasionally have a bowl of ice cream and I love my dark chocolate.” But that will be a topic for another time.
From my personal experience and in working with clients, I have found that addressing stress is just as crucial as being aware of the food that we are eating.
Stress affects our digestion. It depletes minerals and nutrients that are vital for energy, mental clarity, the body’s detoxification process, optimal organ function, etc. We can be eating the “perfect” diet but if our stress levels are constantly elevated, our body will not properly absorb those nutrients.
Can there be good and bad stress? Stress can come from strained relationships, a job or career that we no longer enjoy (or may even dread), past trauma or abuse. Certain foods can also cause stress. Even exercise may cause our body additional stress.
I’ve come to realize that my health journey is, in fact, a journey that will continue my entire life as I learn and understand more about how beautifully and intricately the human body is created. Because of my own life experiences, my passion is to help others find answers to their unique situation and un-complicate the signs that their bodies are giving.
There are many pieces to each of our picturesque puzzles called life. One size does not fit all when it comes to our personal health journeys.
